Farmers' Markets Popularity Increasing

The Frederick News Post reports on the increasing attendance at Frederick County farm markets. Many thanks to Jerry for managing and promoting ours in Brunswick!

"Jerry Cayford attributes the markets' popularity to a consciousness being raised about the importance of helping the local economy and supporting agriculture.

A member of the board of directors of Brunswick Main Street, Cayford has lent a hand in the reorganization of that city's farmers market.

What used to be one booth run by a professional management company has turned into a producer-only market where the farmers sell their goods in person."

A Better Choice

Beth Johnson and A Better Choice Bakery's gluten and dairy free breads and desserts were featured in June 9 edition of the Frederick News Post.

"There are flours made from a variety of other sources besides wheat, including white or brown rice, potatoes, beans and sweet potatoes. Johnson's "flour" is a mix of rice, potato starch and tapioca flours. For artisan breads she may use brown rice flour or millet. She uses xanthan gum or guar gum as a gluten substitute. Gluten is what makes cakes and breads light and airy."
